  • THE IMPORTANCE OF CARING FOR YOUR FLUTE NOTE: Before using the diffuser please read these directions all the way thru as they contain important use and safety information. Due to the nature of the wooden North American flute, moisture can build up inside the Slow Air Chamber (SAC) leading to unwanted microbial growth. One way to slow down the formation of this growth is to follow the flute crafters recommendation and allow the flute to dry out after extended use. However, if you do begin to notice dark areas inside the SAC this could be mold, bacteria or fungus beginning to grow in the moist dark area of the chamber. If you wish to be proactive in the prevention of these growths or take measures for its removal this can be done by diffusing Melaleuca (commonly known as Tea Tree Oil) inside the SAC. Melaleuca oil has a very powerful antimicrobial activity that has been shown to be effective against bacteria, viruses and fungi. For best results we recommend you use pure 100% Melaleuca Essential Oil. The Melaleuca included in this kit is 100% pure, natural and organic Melaleuca essential oil. Since the oil does not need to be in direct contact with the microbes to be effective, the special diffuser pad allows for release of the oil vapor into the chamber without unnecessarily over-saturating the inside of the SAC. HOW TO DIFFUSE YOUR FLUTE 1. Put 1-3 drops of Melaleuca on the diffuser pad (*THIS NOT A SWAB. IT IS FOR DIFFUSING ONLY) 2. CAREFULLY insert the oil soaked pad into the Slow Air Chamber of the flute thru either the breath hole or the SAC exit hole located under the block. DO NOT force the pad into a passage that is too small for easy insertion and removal. If the breath hole is very narrow use the SAC exit hole as the access point to the Slow Air Chamber. Since the oil does not need to be in direct contact with the microbes to be effective, the oil vapor released from the diffuser pad will permeate the chamber and begin its work to sanitize the Slow Air Chamber where the microbial growth occurs.
    3. Leave the diffuser in the SAC for a minimum of 30 minutes. Your flute may smell of Melaleuca for a while, but it eventually dissipates over several weeks as the oil works to suppress the microbial growths. 4. After at least 30 minutes (or longer if desired) CAREFULLY remove the diffuser from the flute. 5. We recommend leaving your flute unused for at least several days or preferably longer to allow time for the oil to work without reintroducing more moisture and contamination. The longer you let it sit the less residual aroma will be present as well. This is particularly helpful if you find the vapor irritating or are concerned with allergic and other reactions. 6. Repeat as needed. Diffuser pad can be reused multiple times. Just be sure diffuser pad is dry before storing it in a clean dry place until needed again. CAUTION: (A.) To avoid getting the diffuser pad caught inside your flute be very careful where and how you insert the diffuser. FluteSense cannot be responsible for the user failing to follow these directions or for the user failing to use proper caution in its use. We feel the diffuser is a far better option than a cotton swab because the cotton can shred easily inside your flute and is not designed to effectively diffuse oils as is the pad used in the FluteSense diffuser. (B.)A very small percentage of people are allergic to Melaleuca. If you have a known or suspected allergy to this oil then do not use this product without checking with your health care provider. Do not take the oil internally. DISCLAIMER: Melaleuca (Tea Tree Oil) has been shown to have strong antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. We believe the oil included with this kit is of the highest purity available on the market today but FluteSense makes no warranties nor guarantees as to its specific effectiveness in treating wooden flutes against microbes or any other use not specifically mention here. We do not have data on its effects and reactions with any internal oils, sealants, glue, etc. that may be present within the flute. Check with your flute crafter if you have a concern regarding your particular flute and the use of Melaleuca. User assumes all risks associated with the use of this product.
