This gorgeous wood originates from the continent of Australia. It is a very solid wood that is heavier than water. The grain is very tight with no obvious open cells. It reminds me of olive wood in its consistency. The colors of the wood are so broad in scope as to defy the imagination. When I hold the flute in my hands it has the feeling of a Rolex watch.

The sound of York Gum Burl is very clear and full. It has a roundness to the sound that seems at odds with the clarity. Normally, these two characteristics do not go together. It is an excellent choice of wood for a flute that will have dynamic capability to be able to play a lullaby to a cholicy baby and yet also be able to carry it's voice above the other instruments you may be playing with like drum, guitar, etc...

Cannot say enough positive about this wood. It is fast becoming a favorite. When you consider that I have worked with well over a hindered different species, that is really saying something.
